Canadian Designer: Sharon Lee a feature article for Embroidery CANADA Magazine
Why do you design?
It is what I do. I think it is human nature to make things – to design things. I want to leave something behind – something to say I was here.
Do you also teach?
My first passion is art and design. I don’t formally teach.
What is your favorite technique to design for? To actually do?
I find needlepoint the perfect format for my ideas. As an artist I can actually paint on canvas which is the format for needlepoint. I’m addicted to stitching too!

Craft Corner Death Match...It's a Martha Stewart Living meets Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdome when amateur crafters compete against each other, against the clock and against the imposing Craft Lady of Steel. Armed with nothing more than hot-glue guns and a few basic materials, the contestants must swiftly assemble projects that are judged on beauty, creativity and utility. Host Jason Jones is the devious ringmaster, throwing twists into each challenge and riling up the bloodthursty studio audience.

Toronto Calendar Magazine
Sharon Lee's needlepoint kits have brought the pastime of Victorian matrons into the laps of jet-set fashion models and husky football players. Don't know the stitches? At the Sharon Lee Gallery, Sharon will demonstrate them personally. And she'll paint a canvas to your specifications if you're not tempted by one of her own, Orient-inspired swirling goldfish, hanging lanterns or blossom designs.
Art history graduate and graphic designer, Sharon Lee focuses on authentic Chinese paintings, porcelains and rug patterns for the inspiration behind her original needlepoint designs. All are meticulously handpainted on cotton canvas, detailing the beautiful colors inherent in Oriental art.

Toronto Life Magazine
Sharon Lee, who describes needlepoint as painting with yarn, creates her own designs for canvases sold at sharonleestudio. Although one design may be used more than once, none of the more than 200 needlepoint canvases she has painted are identical.
Sharon Lee has been inspired by Oriental paintings, rugs and porcelains. She has painted small canvases used for jean patches to large 3' X 5' rugs and will do custom needlepoint designs.
